Last year there were some rumours about soya sauce being toxic. What is this story?

Post subject: Soya sauce unhealthy? It was about the presence of chloropropanols. These chemicals are formed in any food containing proteins (cereal, meat, fish, beans, etc.) that has been treated with high concentration of HCL (hydrochloric acid).
Natural soya sauce, which does not contain chloropropanals, takes almost a year to ripen and to form its characteristic flavour. A similar taste can be made in minutes by the above treatment. This is a much cheaper process!
So whenever buying soya sauce make sure its naturally fermented.
